Meet Emily-Jane
Emily-Jane Shaw
Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) and Certified Art Therapist
I am naturally a curious person and love learning about how we think and grow as individuals. This career made sense to me as I often play the ‘listening ear’ role and love hearing about the resilience in other’s stories. I have also been drawn to creative outlets since I was a child. Music, visual arts and creative writing all had such a positive impact on my mental health growing up and throughout adulthood. I found myself in this career from both my passion for learning about and supporting others, as well as my love for all things creative.
It’s a privilege to come alongside others as they navigate life’s challenges. I strongly believe that everyone is capable of moving towards healing so I approach my work as a team effort and always ensure you are in the driver’s seat! I offer both art therapy and talk therapy so we can focus on whatever support works best for you. In any case, I will always endeavour to be non-judgmental, supportive and to highlight your strengths.

My Approach:
I believe that you are ultimately the person that knows yourself the best and therefore knows what’s best for you in therapy. With that in mind, collaboration is key! I like to focus on drawing upon your strengths and providing opportunities to learn from your own story. There are many tools and strategies I can use depending on what you think will be a good fit.
Some of the models that I base my work on include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Art Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Internal Family Systems, somatic therapy and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). Therapy is not one size fits all so I utilize a variety of strategies that we can agree upon together.
Creating a safe and comfortable environment will always be the first step as we get to know how each other work. I aim to be authentic and honest, and my hope is that you will feel comfortable to do the same.
