Katherine Dimoff

Registered Psychotherapist, B.A., M.Div. Clinical Counselling

*Not accepting new clients at this time.*

My own journey with mental health after the birth of one of my children was what led me to this career. Therapy was, well, therapeutic. It helped me to gain awareness of the negative beliefs I was holding about myself as well as the problematic patterns that showed up in my relationships. I learned how to be more compassionate with myself and more authentic with others. I learned about relational safety and healthy boundaries. Of course, this is an ongoing journey of discovery.

I’ve always been a helper. Whether helping in education, non-profit, or financial planning, I have always had a desire to support others. After pursuing my training in clinical counselling, I finally felt at home. I count it an honor to sit with my clients, providing encouragement and insight in the midst of the mess, and celebrating progress and change as it comes. I have a deep belief in the capacity of each of us to heal and grow and a respect for the uniqueness and worthiness of each individual. I approach therapy sessions with these beliefs and informed by the life experiences that have shaped me. I would be privileged to sit with you to be an anchor, a calming presence, a listening ear. You don’t have to feel stuck or alone. I’m here to help.

My approach:

Context is important. Tell me about your home environment. Who is most significant in your life? What fills you up and what drains you? I use a systemic approach that seeks to understand both your past and present contexts. My training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) helps me to get to the heart of the issues in your most important relationships. I like to be relational and collaborative. Change happens when you feel safe in the therapy office to share the deep stuff that’s really on your mind and in your heart. I’m here to walk alongside you with warmth and without judgement because I am human too.

If we need to clear some old wounds, we can do that. My training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) allows me to efficiently and effectively treat traumatic experiences, whether single occurrences such as a sexual assault, or relational wounds or repeated trauma so that they no longer hold you back. I also integrate what I find most helpful from cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), mindfulness, structural therapy (hello, boundaries!), family of origin work, self-compassion work, and somatic therapy (what your body is telling you). Let’s work together to help you get back to yourself.
