Meet Karen

Karen Sweeney

Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying), M. A.

Every person is unique with their own struggles and stories that shape who they are today. And no matter whether you’re dealing with a current challenge, facing a transition, or simply looking to better understand certain patterns in your life, you don’t have to face it alone.

In my own journey, through difficult losses in my life, I discovered the value of not walking through life challenges alone. I’ve discovered the importance of being authentic; and that I’m not perfect and that is okay. Living overseas has also given me a unique perspective on culture and the importance it plays in shaping a person’s values and experiences.

I invite you to take a moment right now to take a deep breath. Be kind to yourself as you take this next step. If you’re ready to start, reach out. I’m here to support you, no matter where you are on your journey. I count it as a privilege to walk alongside you in this process.

Issues I treat:

  • anxiety and depression
  • relationship issues
  • grief and loss
  • workplace stress
  • emotional distress
  • spirituality and faith issues
  • life transitions
  • parenting
  • setting healthier boundaries
  • coping skills
  • communication issues
  • challenging negative thoughts

My approach:

My goal is to create a safe place where we can collaboratively unpack the pain. This is a journey of self-discovery but also of gaining an understanding of core issues and setting goals that will help you move forward.

I work with clients who are struggling with anxiety, relationship issues, grief and loss, depression, life stage transition, cross-cultural adjustment, and faith issues. I use an integrative therapy approach which draws on practices from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy and Emotionally Focused Therapy.
